Transaero to sue Aeroflot?
Reports indicate that the private airline, Transaero has accused Aeroflot of price dumping and that it is prepared to sue for substantial damages.
Where competition exists on shared routes the prices for flight tickets from Russia are often most competitive with rival companies looking to offer the most attractive fares. "Whilst there is often some confusion(on prices), it is the client and the Travel Companies who profit with lower prices and increased revenue" said a source from a leading Travel Company.
Only 5 Russian-made aircraft type allowed to fly over Europe
As new noise and emission limits for airliners come into force to comply with Article 3 of the Chicago Convention. Evidently only 5 types comply, the Il-96 family, the Tu-204, Yak-42, Tu-154M and Il-62. It is now an obligation for all aircraft to install on-board TCAS collision alert equipment.
A Trade Spokesman informed RTM that these regulations have been long advised and a shortage of equipment is not expected during the busy summer season.
These technical up-grades will not affect Aeroflot as 58 jets in the airlines International fleet have the necessary equipment. Aeroflot has invested over $.11 million in upgrading it's fleet to European standards.
Assistance for Domestic Airlines
The Russian Cabinet has recently approved a state-supported leasing system to assist cash-strapped Russian domestic airlines modernise their fleets and to provide orders for Russian aircraft suppliers.
