Austria's leading ski resort for Russian skiers

The most popular ski resort for Russia skiers is Zell am See in Austria. Zell am See has enjoyed success and recognition on the Russian market since 1993. In Winter 2000-2001 this small ski town enjoyed an increase of 27% with over 30,000 arrivals.

Hong Kong announces major increase

The Hong Kong Tourism board announced a substantial increase from both Russia and the CIS Countries. 41.8% more Russian visitors arrived in Hong Kong in 2000 while there was an increase from the CIS overall of 47.7%.

The total number of visitors to Hong Kong(all markets) in March 2001 was over 1 million showing a growth of 10.9%.

The Hong Kong Tourism Board was formerly known as the Hong Kong Tourist Association. This change took effect from 01 April 2001 and reflects a change top the tourism body's constitutional structure.

Turkey announces increases from Russia

Turkey is expecting a significant increase in the number of Russian clients that are expected to arrive during the Summer months. Due an to extensive and highly recognisable advertising campaign in both National and Regional TV, the Turkish Embassy Information Counsellor's Office anticipates an increase in excess of 15%.

There is also a noticeable trend to earlier bookings this year with many travel companies now looking for additional allocations. Most clients are staying more than 7 days and at least 50% of the Russian arrivals will stay in 5-Star hotels. 30% will stay in 4-star hotels and 20% in 3-star or budget accommodations.

80% of all Russian arrivals to Turkey arrive by Charter Flights and it is estimated that at least 25% of all visitors are repeat clients.

The Seasons of Travel

A recent report indicated that more Russians travel in Summer with summer reservations accounting for 26% of the total. The second most popular time of travel was for the New Year with 18%. Other holiday dates include May Holiday with 14%, Christmas 11%, Winter 11%, Autumn 10%, and Spring with 9%. Only 1% of the interviewed stated that they would travel on other school holidays.
